Flowers from Seth

Some of you know that Seth was out of town on our anniversary.
But, he had flowers sent to the house!
:D

...and more important than just flowers is that he listened when I told him which kinds I like.
(it used to be lilies...until he bought me those really smelly kind...you know, the ones that smell like dirty diapers 4 hours after fully blooming.)




I have no clue what this one is, but I LOVE it!

Happy Anniversary, Seth!

Today Seth and I have been married for 5 years!

And I can honestly say that I love him more today than I did on our wedding day.

In just the last 6 months of our marriage, we have really grown as a couple. I greatly attribute this to the fact that we are regularly attending church and seeking God in our daily lives. 

It's not that things have ever been terribly bad, we just never had that alone-time together to build up our relationship...four months after we were married, we had Breck. There was no honeymoon period, even though we took a honeymoon. (which by the way, was not terribly pleasant - when you take a 5-month pregnant woman on a 6-hour flight, who's ears never 'pop' upon decent, and then expect her to hike all over Dublin for the duration of the stay, you'll not be greeted with kindness. ;) )

(yep, I look as bad as I felt!)

But now that the kids are getting older and more independent, we find that we are gaining more time together as a couple. And it is making all the difference!

My Husband Rocks (9/26/10)

A few weeks ago Seth was in Hershey, PA for work.

Being a thoughtful guy, he brought home gifts for the kids:
(he asked what I wanted, but I honestly couldn't think of one single overpriced item I had to have, so told him to bring home those single serve coffee packets from the hotel. ;) )







In case you are wondering, yes...
Rowan must have taken a corner too sharp and bent her rear axle.
And Breck's Hummer was apparently carjacked and the back wheels put on blocks.
We're still looking for the responsible party.


Seth, you are such a great Dad!!!
And that makes you an even better husband!

My Husband Rocks (9/12/10)

Seth is always thinking ahead.
Way more than me.

He reluctantly came with me to do his brother's engagement pictures and proved to be a valuable "helper" - he carried stuff and even thought of things I may need.

Like a ladder.
Which really came in handy!

And he showed his chivalrous side by helping me down off the tractor.

My Husband Rocks!

Last weekend was the best Mother's Day I've ever had!
Yes, it's true that I've only had 3 of them, but this one was particularly good!

And it's all because of my wonderful husband.

My "day" started on Saturday! We all went garage sale-ing (something Seth could do without), then Seth planted the garden with minimal help from me, then while Rowan slept I got my hair cut, and when I got home he took both kids to the store! And when they got home, Breck spilled the beans that they bought me flowers! (in the form of a hanging basket - per my request because they last longer than a week!) Then our friends Jill & Brett came over and we all went to dinner. The kids were awesomely well behaved and Seth took them outside the restaurant to run while we waited for a table.

Sunday was fairly normal and relaxed.
We went to church and then went out to lunch, which was a special treat!

My Husband Rocks! (1/13/10)

I'll just start at the beginning...



I haven't driven my car for a while (been using my in-laws suv while they were on a cruise - hope you don't mind!), so last night Seth made sure my tires were to the proper air pressure and then this morning, he made sure my car battery wasn't dead.

Isn't he great?!

But something weird happened because my lights, although on auto, never clicked off. And they were on for over an hour. And when I went to start the car to take Breck to preschool, it was dead! And I don't mean sorta-kinda-dead-but-still-trying-to-turn-over. It was D.E.A.D.

So, I called my wonderful husband, who rushed home to take Breck to school, then came back home and hooked my car up to the jumper cable battery charger thingy. And showed me how to use it.

After about an hour on that, it was charged and all was well!


And that, my friends, is why Seth Rocks!

My Husband Rocks! (1/3/10)

Mr. Fix-It has struck again!

Remember when Seth fixed the portable DVD player!?

This time he fixed our leaky shower head. It was one of those drippy leaks like the over-exaggerated kind you see on commercials. Except we couldn't turn the channel to forget about it. It was obnoxiously loud!

The dripping kept getting worse, so Seth decided to tackle this on his own! I won't lie, I was a little nervous - and so was he - as this isn't his normal calling. But, after a little bit of internet research and a call to my handy-man Stepdad, he figured out that the culprit of our leak was the seal on the cold water knob. I was amazed that Seth was able to get the knob off. I had no idea where to start with it! And after a little more internet research, he learned that there's a cartridge inside the knob that needed to be replaced.


(this is inside the knob...kinda gross, huh?!)

So, after about 6 trips to the hardware store, Seth got all the new tools needed to remove said cartridge and some funny looking nut, got the correct replacement cartridge and fixed another thing that was broken, then got everything put back together!!!!

And guess what?

No drips!!!

Way to go Seth! You rock!

Dangers of Home Economics

This afternoon at lunchtime, I was slaving over the stove reheating leftovers in the microwave and decided that a piece of homemade bread would go nicely with my meal. (I had made some bread the other day. I also sharpened our bread knife about a month ago...you know where this is going, don't you!) And as I was masterfully cutting my deliciously thick slice of garlic bread, I also masterfully sliced my thumb! And I mean sliced. That serrated edge cut through my skin like butta. And I calmly irrationally instinctively ran to the sink to hold my thumb under cold water.

Thank goodness Seth was home!
He heard me crying and using some colorful words while in my agony and came running up the stairs to see what was wrong. I reluctantly showed him my bloody stump of a thumb cut and thought he'd A) throw up and/or B) pass out. (he gets queasy from the smell of poopy diapers.) However, he surprised me and maned-up! No vomit, no unconsciousness! Yay Seth!!!

And he was very good about following directions as I told him how to patch me up. First thing, I asked for a bandaid. He ran upstairs and from the length of time he was gone, it was clear he had no idea where they were. When he came down, he handed me a pantyliner and asked if that would work as gauze. :) Similar principle, very different application. So, I told him where the bandaids were, he got them and helped me get bandaged up.

Meanwhile, the kids were patiently waiting for their lunch at the kitchen island, having witnessed everything. And bless Breck's little heart, he came over and asked if I was ok and then gave my thumb a kiss. I swear that kiss was like morphine being pumped into my veins - it really did feel better!


...I'm now thinking of investing in one of those bread holder thingies to slice my bread. ;)

My Husband Rocks! (12/5/09)

Seth is amazing! Amazing!

He fixed the kids' portable DVD player! It stopped working months ago, while we were still living in Manhattan. I had given up all hope of fixing it and told Seth to just throw it in the trash. (this is not something I normally say!) But, Seth was determined to at least try. He took some stuff apart, shook it like a mad man, then adjusted some part inside the reader-area-thing and ta-da, it worked!!!

I am sooooo proud of him!
And thankful that now when we visit our family, that the kids will have something to do other than scream. :)

My Husband Rocks! (9/14)

Here are a few reasons why Seth rocks:

1. He had already signed us up for our grocery shopper cards at two stores before the kids and I moved here, which really saved me time and hassle (since I'd be filling out paperwork with both very energetic kids) AND he put them on the key chains, so when I went the first time and thought I didn't have the card with me, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually did!

2. He drove all the way to Nebraska Furniture Mart (even though he did not want to - it's about a 30 minute drive one way) yesterday after church so I could look at their furniture. (and then, their clearance section didn't even have any good prices!)

3. He gets up before me each and every weekday, and he is very quiet and shuts the door to the bathroom so the light and noise don't wake me up! It's a small gesture to some, but huge to me since I thoroughly enjoy sleeping past 7:00am! :)

4. This morning when I went to restock the mini fridge with Coke, Seth had already done it!

Dinner and a Movie for One, Please

This morning our realtor came and took pictures of the house.
I got the last of our utility companies called for the new house and canceled our dental appointments, since we won't be here when they are scheduled.

Seth's dad came and fixed the wood rot in two of our windows - it looks fantastic!
(I'd take a picture, but you know...)

And the best part about my day is that when Seth's dad left, he took both kids with him. They are spending the night with Grandma and Grandpa Lloyd and I am thrilled!
Seth was the mastermind behind this awesome idea. And for that, he rocks!

So, this evening I went and picked up my free movie rental from Redbox - just for me - that I know no one else in my house would want to watch. What did I get?

(something Seth isn't a fan of and therefore, we don't get)

I plan to relax all night - watch my movie, eat my dinner, maybe do a little crocheting.
but mostly, just r e l a x.

I should mow the lawn, but it's after 6pm and still 95 degrees out.
I think it can wait until morning. ;)

My Husband Rocks! (7/31)

Seth rocks so much!

For those who don't know, he works long days and he's living 2 hours away from home right now. (for another 2 weeks, when we move!!! hooray!!!)

But, he came home this afternoon and took the kids outside so I could try and take a nap!
(I've been feeling pretty yucky because of a cold or possibly allergies.)

I know he's tired, too. But he didn't resist when I asked for some quiet time - he just did it!

My Husband Super-Rocks!

If I have ever complained about Seth lacking in the handyman department, I take it all back! During the weeks he was home, he worked hard - taking care of the lawn - including planting new grass in several places, tiling the kitchen floor, fixing various things on the house, painting a lot, playing with the kids and taking them to the park, doing dishes without being asked, doing laundry without being asked (although, this was more out of necessity because I neglected to do any for a long while), getting all of our house paperwork in order, getting all of his new job paperwork in order and a lot of other things (like putting up with a more than stressed-out wife!)

Seth, I love you and am so very proud of you for all that you have done and continue to do for your family!

My Husband Rocks! (5/8)

Seth has this weird ability to see off-the-road things as he's driving. Such as deer...in the valley of some hills...1,000 feet away...at dusk! Or turkeys behind trees in a wheat field!

He's such an aware person! And, while driving, is able to point out all kinds of fun things for the kids and me to see!

Seth is the calmest person I know. (I, on the other hand, am not a very calm person when frustrated or provoked or pms-ing) He has this crazy ability to absorb stressful situations and deal with them in a calm and rational manner. (...like he doesn't freak out when the dishwasher doesn't do a perfect job of washing the dishes, or when Breck has pushed Rowan down for the 1 millionth time, or cuss when things just aren't going right.)

I love that he has this awesome trait - and for that, Seth rocks!

My Husband Rocks! (4/24)

I think most of you know by now that last week we had some serious stress going on! Seth hasn't freaked out like I thought he would or moped about like I was afraid he might.

Since Seth's been home, he's not only worked incredibly hard to have the best interviews he possibly can, but he's also put a LOT of time and effort into our lawn! He's helped with the kids and around the house and has also helped in the "what if we need to sell out home" decisions. Talk about Super-Dad!!!

I am so proud of him for remaining composed during this high stress time - and it's so comforting to be married to a man who truly takes care of his family!

My Husband Rocks! (4/13)

Wow! It's been exactly 2 months since I've posted a MHRs post.

I feel bad....sorry, Seth!

Without further ado, here's why my husband rocks:

Lately, during the weekends, we've switched Breck's car seat from my car to Seth's. And, when we're back to the weekdays, Seth has been putting it back in my car and buckling it back in! It's just a small thing, but when the kids are ready to get in the car, it's such a nice thing to not have to make Breck wait while I put his car seat in.
