Sundays In My City: OP Arboretum, Visit 2

It's settled.
We will be visiting our nearby arboretum every 2 weeks or so,

even though this was a predominant feel to our trip:

And this was a common occurrence:

I will just have to learn to be more patient and bring the stroller.

There are lots more flowers than just 2 weeks ago!
Oh, they had daffodils in all shapes and sizes and colors!
And a wide color variety of hyacinths!
And I didn't even get photos of all the kinds of flowers!

We found a new trail and water was flowing where it hadn't been in mid-March.

However, on the path that's in the middle left picture below, there was news of a 3 foot long black snake lounging along the pathway.
I thank God that a) we did not find it, and b) the hiker who did find it turned around and told us about it, because we were headed back that way!!!
...heart-attack averted!

Eventually I was able to get the kids to sit still long enough for a quick picture...or ten.

Hopefully on our next visit, all the tulips will be in bloom!

Sundays In My City: Overland Park Arboretum

This week we took a trip to the Overland Park Arboretum! I've been wanting to go for a while now, but the cold and rain have been keeping us home.

Not this week! I was determined to go, rain or shine!

And it was pretty neat - I'm excited for Spring and Summer to arrive, because I know this place is going to be busting at the seams with beauty!

And best of all, it's free!

Bridges

Flowers
There were only these flowers in bloom. That's it. But, there were tons and tons of daffodils, tulips and crocus that will be blooming in the next week or two! So, I think we just might make this a weekly trip.

Wildlife
The deer was no more than 30 feet from us. It's a very tame wild deer! We were talking and she saw us, but went about her afternoon snack without hesitation.

Statues

Water
You can not walk more than 10 feet without seeing water in one way or another!

Miscellaneous
These are just some of the other features and gardens I liked. Just imagine how pretty they'll be when everything is green and blooming!

Sundays In My City: Trail Blazing!

This whole week we've had gorgeous weather!
...let me rephrase that - we've had gorgeously warm weather.
And rain. Lots of rain.
So, several days ago we went for a walk to a nearby trail.

Breck loved watching all the water in the little creek.

This was the best spot!

Rowan enjoyed herself, too.
She is quickly becoming very independent and extremely strong willed. She wanted to go the opposite way than the rest of us for pretty much the entire time we were on this little trail.
