A Frugal Crafting Tip

How many of you buy paint for your children?
...hmm, not as many as I thought.

But if you do, have you thought of checking out the "oops" paint (mixed paint that was the wrong color or possibly customer-abandoned) at Home Depot?
They sell
quarts for $1 each and gallons for $5 each.
Not too shabby considering a 2.5 oz tube of acrylic paint will run you $2.50 at a craft store!

If you're worried about making a big (and permanent) mess, here are a couple ways to avoid that:
  1. Paint outside and wear clothes that you don't care about.
  2. Divide the large quantity of paint into small tubes or other containers, so if there is a spill it's minimal.
And I strongly recommend laying down a drop cloth if the potential for a large mess is on the high side. Yes, it will take a few extra minutes to set up, but it's certainly worth it come clean up time!

  1. This is a great tip. I actually saved all leftover paint from painting here and put them in containers just for this purpose. Thanks for letting us know about purchasing the mess ups and such!
