Recently, it was Christmas in August for me!
Seth agreed to give me my Christmas present early - really early - this year.
So, I got this lens:
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 SLD DG Macro Lens
It's certainly not an expensive lens at $150, but it got rave reviews.
To be honest, I'm a little disappointed.
I wanted $1500 performance at a $150 price!!
(joking...there's obviously a reason it's "cheap")
It does not have AV, which I think is my biggest complaint. And since I apparently have the shakiest hands in the Midwest, I'll just have to use a tripod for my macro shots.
That said, I think there's always a period of adjustment and learning.
After all, I wasn't too happy with my Nikon D3000 when I first got it, but now that I've learned how to use it, I love it!

Congrats on your new lens!
ReplyDeleteCool!!! Congrats and happy EARLY birthday!
ReplyDeleteI hope you give us another review when you've used it for a while. I've been looking at sigma lenses, too.
ReplyDeleteYay for you!!
ReplyDeleteohhhh, I love early Christmas presents !!!
ReplyDeleteSuh-weet! :D Congratulations or should I say Merry CHRISTmas?! :D
ReplyDeleteyay! A new toy :) Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHoly lens Batman! That thing is gigantic - I looooove it! And I think you must have the "2nd" most shakiest hands in the Midwest. I'm certain I've got you beat in that area. ;-) Can't wait to see some macros!! (Did you tell me the other day that you already had a macro lens...hmm, maybe I'm confusing that conversation with someone else)... Anyway, congratulations!! It's so fun to get new stuff!
ReplyDeleteI love new lenses, I have all of "one" extra. LOL But I use it as my primary.
ReplyDeleteI thought you had a higher end camera than a D3000. Just assumed it I guess. You are fabulous with it. I have a D40 (supposedly the same camera different model number) so now I have no excuses for my lackadaisical photography methods.
What do you mean you aren't happy with it?? I just got one and am curious what your tips were?!? I haven't had a lot of time to mess around with it yet.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a new toy you have there. It should be, my-not-so-long friend. Oh dear I hope I can save up as well to upgrade my DSLR. I need a new one.
ReplyDeleteWill be fun to see your images. I can't image holding still enough for that long of a lens though.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas! Look forward to hearing how it goes for you!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. That is a big lens! I would probably have the shakiest hands in the south with that. I'm glad you got it though and you will grow to love it...lots. :)
