Drama, Drama, Drama

Whew! I never knew house buying would be so stressful and involved.

So, let's get straight to the point, shall we?!

The inspection report on the house we were planning on buying (oops, I gave it away right there!) came back ridiculously long and detailed with many many many things that are wrong with the house - basically, the people who live there didn't do one thing to maintain their home except install new carpet. Let me run down the quick list for you:

  • Excessive wood rot around all windows
  • 4-5 windows do not open/shut properly, need to be replaced
  • Excessive wood rot on the entire front porch
  • Termites
  • Driveway is cracking/pitting/crumbling
  • Air conditioner needs to be replaced (or at the very least have something major fixed)
  • Tile and grout work need to be done in the shower
  • None of the storm doors fit properly
  • The sump pump drains right into the foundation
  • etc, etc, etc
So, those sellers will receive our cancellation forms early tomorrow morning. I think it was well worth the $400 inspection fee to not buy a money pit!

BUT, the good news is that the first house we made an offer on (and loved!) is back on the market due to financing falling through for the buyers who caused us to get the boot from our negotiations. So, bad for them, good for us...maybe. We'll be making an offer tomorrow or Thursday on that one.

...I'll let ya'll know how that goes the second time around!

I can't help but feel that maybe God wanted us to go through this whole house buying mess so that we could realize the value of the first house and the seller could realize the value of pre-approved buyers.

  1. Boy that would have been a booger to fix up soon. I think you very much invested your $400 in a good thing. Praise the Lord for that!! I hope that original house all works out great.
