Free Magazine Subscriptions + Free Gift Cards = Awesome!

Oh yeah, you read that title correctly!

And no, there are no "strings attached" or gimmicks.
Absolutely, 100% free.

Here's how you can get good magazine subscriptions for $0.00 and earn gift cards while doing it!
(To give you an example of the kinds of free mags you can get, I personally have subs to Family Fun, Southern Living, Good Housekeeping, This Old House, Real Simple, etc.)

Step 1.
Sign up for a MyPoints.com account.
It's free.

Step 2.
Sign up for Magazines.com's "Insider Savings" emails.
Scroll almost to the bottom of the page. The email sign-up box is located on the left side of the page at the bottom of the left sidebar.

Now this is where it gets tricky...

Step 3.
You have to wait.

For what?

For Magazines.com to email you $5 gift codes and/or $5 coupon codes.
I get these pretty regularly...approx one per month.
But with Christmas quickly approaching I'm guessing we'll see even more codes.

Step 4.
When you do get your code(s), do a quick search for magazines that are $5 or less.
Note: Magazines.com does have a "free magazines" section, but those are trade magazines, which I've never found useful. You'll most likely want to browse through their regular selection.

If you find a magazine you want (or someone you know would want) don't buy it.
Not yet anyway.

Step 5.
Sign in to your MyPoints.com account and search for Magazines.com.
In order to earn points, which translate into gift cards, you must go through your MyPoints.com site. You normally get 250 points per subscription, however, for the month of September they are doubling it to 500 points per subscription!

1500 points gets you a $10 gift card to stores/restaurants such as Old Navy, Gap, Barnes & Noble, Chili's, etc.

Do some quick math and you'll see that this is a pretty sweet deal!

A few helpful hints/tips about Magazines.com:
1. You can order the same magazine multiple times. And what's nice about this is that you won't get duplicate issues...instead they tack on that extra subscription to the end of your current subscription! Family Fun is one that is consistently under $5.00 and I currently have a subscription through the end of 2012 - all for free!

2. You can easily use these free subscriptions to give as gifts. Just enter the recipient's address in the ship to field.

3. Not all gift codes or coupons can be used on every magazine. Some codes are restricted to select titles. But, Magazines.com is good to tell you that in the emails...you just have to read the fine print.

4. Be aware of the code expiration date! Some codes expire in a week and some codes don't expire for 6 months. I save those later expiring codes in a special folder in my email and wait until there's a really good sale!

5. Some magazine selections allow you to chose a partial subscription. Many of the craft/hobby magazines have this option.

6. You should see your points credited to your MyPoints.com account within 2 weeks of submitting your magazine order.
