After getting Rowan into her extra pretty and ruffly Easter dress, she went to talk to Breck:

Rowan: Breck! What do you think? (referring to her dress)

Rowan: Breck! What do you think?

Rowan: Breck! What do you think?

Breck: (after Rowan finally got his attention!) You look totally awesome!!!

Seth and Breck were watching the Kansas State basketball game 

and Seth cheered at the screen "Come on, McGruder!"

Breck: Where's Michael?

Seth: Michael who?

Breck: No, it's not a knock-knock joke.

While in the car on the way to the store, Seth asked Breck something. 

To which Breck replied "Hold on Daddy, I'm talking to God."

When they got home, Seth told me what Breck had said.

I wanted to know more, so I asked Breck "Were you praying to God or just telling Him about your day?"

Breck told me "Oh, you can pray anywhere!! At church, in your house, in a car, a pirate ship, your bedroom, in a chair, or a boat...anywhere!"

Rowan Says the Darndest Things

One recent night, Seth and I had laid with the kids while they were falling asleep. 

They share a bedroom now and normally their door is open to let the nightlight shine in. However, on this particular night Rowan had shut the door so it was pretty dark.

When Breck had fallen asleep, Seth got up to go back downstairs and left the bedroom door open.

Rowan immediately sat up in bed and proclaimed:

"It's morning time!!"

When I told her it was in fact still bedtime, she dismissed my erroneous claim and cheerfully marched downstairs for breakfast.

Lately, Breck and I have been bonding over video games.


Here are some things he says (or does) while playing the Wii...in particular, Wii Play's Tanks! game:

* "Happy Birthday!" as he blows up enemy tanks

* "A soldier never gives up, Mommy."

* "Don't you get my Mommy!!!" or "Leave me Mommy alone!!!"
(this one is my favorite...he's very protective of me which just melts my heart!)

* If I win a game, he'll select the Tanks! game and immediately blow me up.
(...We're still working on being a gracious loser.)

* While playing with Rowan, he shouted "Rowan, get him! SHOOT! I LOVE YOU!"

Breck Says the Darndest Things

Today I was showing the kids where Brazil is on the globe.
(Uncle Josh, as mentioned here, is there now for farming stuff.)

After finding Brazil, we looked at the rest of the globe.
Breck put his finger on a country and the following conversation ensued:

Breck: "What's this place?"

Me: "That's Poland."

Breck: "Oh. I like Poland!"

Me: "What about Poland do you like?"

Breck: "They have bears."

...as in Poland Bears.

For the past few weeks Breck has been asking what God looks like. We generally answer with something to the effect of "He's invisible, but He watches over us and is with us always."

Tonight Seth & I attended our first small group session with our church. Our group met in a building we have never been in before. (yes, we're going to the mega church now.)

As you all know, kids are incredibly aware of their surroundings. As we were walking down a hallway, Breck saw a stained glass window. He stopped very abruptly, ran back to the window and said:

"I found God!
There He is!
God is awesome!"

It's nice to know we're doing something right.

Breck: "Do all alligators and birds lay eggs?"
Me: Yes.
Breck (in a matter-of-fact voice): "Maybe I'll lay an egg...in a nest!"

The other night, as Breck's bedtime approached, he sat on the couch really rubbing his eyes. When we asked what he was doing he replied:

"I'm trying to wake them up!"

A few days ago, Breck was sitting on the bar stool, stuck his hand in the little front flap on whitey tighties and then said:

"Oops! That's not my pocket!"

...with a silly little grin.

At Breck's 3rd birthday party, he was given a singing Spongebob card. Both he and Rowan loved it! They loved it so much, that they wore the battery out. And apparently threw it under Breck's bed. The other day, I fished out a bunch of toys from under the bed, including that card.

Breck brought me the card and said: "Mommy, will you fix it?"
Me: "It's broken, honey. The battery is dead, so it's all done."
Breck: "Oh. Grandpa (Lloyd) will fix it!"

Yesterday our friend Jill (Hi Brett, congrats!) stopped by to visit! She was fully aware that Breck has ringworm prior to coming over and when she asked about his "booboo" as we are calling it, he replied:

"I have worms."

(even though I've explained that it really isn't worms and someone just made up a bad name for it.)

Last night Seth and Breck were walking running home from the park because dinosaurs were chasing them. Along the way, Breck fell twice and each time he said:

"A dinosaur bit me!"

Tonight I was laying in bed with Breck and we were saying prayers. After I was done and said Amen, Breck said:

"That was a good one, Mommy! Amen!"

Seth: "Who's your best friend?"

Breck: "Carrot sticks."

Katie: "Is that why you don't eat them?"

Breck: "Yes."

Earlier today, Breck let out a rather large...release of gas, shall we say...and I asked (sarcastically, of course) if that was him. Without missing a beat, he turned his back to me and pointed, with both index fingers, at his bottom!

This morning, while making our regular Monday run to Walgreens, we passed a truck after being at a stop light (it was on a 4-lane road, so it wasn't "passing" passing). And Breck said:

"Mommy, you win!!!"



...and then when we got closer to the store, Breck started whisper-chanting:

"Walgreens, Walgreens, Walgreens"
